“I’m fine. Don’t worry. I won’t take chances because I’m not as brave as you think I am. You’re the brave one. You know what else I love about you? You know how to be still. In the middle of everything, at a swim meet with all the craziness and pressure, I look at you, and you’re still. I wish I could do that. But I’m impatient.  I shouldn’t have come back. I should have just left, all tragic and perfect and we’d always have had that last night instead of this mess. I guess good-byes are the only perfect things we get. Don’t tell my folks.
